A message from the manager of Orange chat:

“I'm very sorry to announce that Orange chat closed on 1 June 2009. I know that over the years it’s been a much-loved first port of call for many of you to make new friends and catch up with the regulars.

“However, if you are one of those regulars, you’ll know that for a while now the site has been coughing and wheezing a little, and fake customers have been spamming you as fast as we can remove them.

“We didn’t want that to continue, so were faced with a choice – get the site back to its former self, or call it a day.

"Unfortunately, like everyone else at the moment, we're having to think long and hard about how we can support all of our customers with the money we’ve got. We tried our best, and looked at a whole lot of alternatives, but sadly we couldn’t make reinvesting in chat add up.

“We do have other areas for people to exchange hellos and opinions, including our forums and the chat rooms and message boards on Orange's mobile website, ‘Orange world’. But I know they’re not exactly the same as Orange chat, and I’m sorry that we’ve had to close it down.”
